Pattaya at a glance

Heart in Greenness by Araleya

Pattaya is a vacation hangout set on the southern eastern shores of Thailand, a 150 kilometer drive from the capital Bangkok. Pattaya has grown well well-known for its bars and nighlife, but local authorities has made campaigns to allow for to a greater extent family-friendly attractive features and activities, and also more sport and  conference avails. Even though the sex bussines in Pattaya is coming well, Pattaya likewise appeal numerous local families and tourer from around the world.
Local government has through the years tried to improve the standard of the beaches, unluckily they are low when compared to many other tourer beaches in Thailand , and over-development has long since demolished some of the natural influences the region erst had. All The Same, the overplus of hotels and guest houses, and good approach from the capital and airport, make it a favorite weekend getaway. Receiving near five million holiday makers yearly, Pattaya has allot to do and the dining choices are enough. Its population is a motley shuffle of nationalities and ethnicities from near and far.

Lady Boys of Thailand - Book Review by firoze shakir photographerno1

Pattaya’s designation evolved out of the march of Phraya Tak (later King Taksin) and his armed forces out of Ayutthaya to Chanthaburi. This took area earlier than the crash of the previous capital to the Burmese invaders in 1767.

When his military turned up at the bounds of what is now Pattaya, he stumbled upon the troops of Nai Klom, who made an effort to intercept him. When the two leaders met face to face, Nai Klom was awed by Phraya Tak’s dignified manner and his army’s strict discipline. He then surrendered without a attack. The location the two armies confronted each other was termed Thap Phraya, which means the Army of the Phraya. This was later changed to Phatthaya, which happens to mean the wind blowing out of the southwest to the northeast at the beginning of the rainy season. In these days the city is formally know as Pattaya.

For years, Pattaya was a tiny fishing town. But a alter materialized on April 26, 1961, when the first group of about 100 American servicemen who were fighting down in the Vietnam Conflict got in Pattaya for relaxation. From this beginning, Pattaya were made a well-liked beach resort which now draw attention hundreds of thousands of visitors. Fishermen’s huts along the beach were replaced by resort hotel and shopping malls. Fishing vessels were adapted to turn into holiday boats.

Pattaya at a glint

Pattaya is a fashionable holidaymaker resort on the Northern Gulf Seacoast of Eastward Thailand, located 150 kilometer south-east of Bangkok. Pattaya is better acknowledged for it’s night life, but the local bussineses has cleared a big deal of endeavour to make the city more family oriented, and dedicated conference and sporting installations. Althought the Pattaya sex craft is still making real well, the holiday resort also draws local kin and holidaymakers from far and wide.
Satisfactory effort has in previous years been taken by local goverment to improve the quality of Pattaya’s beaches., but they are still not up to the high standards set by beaches in the southern part of Thailand, and the large exploitation of Pattaya has caused the disapearance of the natural beauty which it was based upon  . All The Same, the plethora of hotels and guest houses, and comfortable approach from the capital and airport, make it a popular weekend getaway. Welcoming well-nigh five million vacation makers yearly, The holiday resort town of Pattaya is efficient to offering you a very extended range of dinning oppertunities as well as plenty of things to keep you going and to visit whilst you are there. You will find a intersting flux of nationalities and a nice colorfull irreligious make up from those who call Pattaya their home.

Japanese TV personality Ai Haruna held a press conference in Tokyo December 3 in which she stated the desire for Japan to be more tolerant toward transpeople and others of diverse sexual orientations.

The 37 year old beauty was already a household name in Japan before she was crowned Miss International Queen 2009 last month in Pattaya, Thailand.

"I was surprised to see many transgender people work at hotels and restaurants with no problem in Thailand," she said.

"Japan can learn many things from other Asian nations like Thailand and the Philippines."

In Japan, people can legally change their gender on official documents but transgender people still face spoken and silent discrimination, Haruna said.

She recalled condominium owners had declined to let her rent apartments because neighbors may object.

"I was rejected five straight times," she said.

"I think Japan is behind."

Haruna said she had lived with difficulties since when she was a child.

"I was born with a very masculine sounding boy’s name. But I always wanted to be a girl, always dreamed of becoming a pretty idol seen on TV."

"But for a long time life was very difficult for me," she said in a quivering voice.

"Even after I had a sex change operation at the age of 19 and had my first boyfriend, I encountered many, many obstacles that constantly made me realize I wasn’t a woman."

Haruna said that she wanted to work internationally to raise awareness for sexual minorities. “I want to work for those who are troubled like me.”

"I want to work in the world. And of course, I want to be married some day."

And may you be successful not only in raising awareness about transgender issues during your reign, but in your homeland as well.

Pattaya, December 2 [PATTAYA ONE NEWS] : Just before 4am on Wednesday, Police Leutenant Colonel Pratip from Pattaya Police Station was called to the Pattaya International Hospital to assist a French national who was caught up in a terrifying knife attack on Pattaya Beach Road in front of Soi 5. Officers met Mr. Jacque Cornell from France who had already received medical attention after sustaining injuries to his head, chin, arm and shoulder. Mr. Cornell explained that he was driving his motorbike slowly along Pattaya Beach Road when he met four women who suggested he take them back to his Hotel. He refused which led the women to call over a Thai Man armed with a knife, who proceeded to stab the victim in his shoulder. The women then joined the attack and used their shoes as weapons. BANGKOK, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) — Two Chinese tourists died in a speed-boat-clash on Wednesday off Thailand’s Pattaya coast, while at least another 14 people on board got injured.

The Chinese travel agency that organized the tour group identified the two victims, who got drowned, as Zheng Honglu, male,57, and Chen Dingshan, male, 61.

According to an official from the Chinese embassy in Thailand, another nine tourists from the Chinese mainland and one from China’s Hong Kong, were injured when two speed boats clashed at about 12:30 p.m. local time in Pattaya offshore.

The accident happened about 100 meters offshore, said Liu Xiaojian, an injured Chinese tourist, when an one-engine speed boat named Ta-wat-chai-nam-chok collided with the other one-engine speed boat named New Friend.

“The boat was carrying us, 29 tourists from China, three tour guides and a boat driver to go back to Pattaya shore from Lan Island, when I felt the strong shock suddenly and the boat begin to sink right away into the sea,” Liu said in the hospital. He said his nose was broken in the accident and probably need to accept surgery.

The other boat, with 13 tourists from the Middle East, Britain and Russia along with two boat drivers, stuck onto the shallow water, according to The Nation online.

All the injured had been sent to Pattaya Memorial Hospital immediately, said the hospital’s coordinator Somkiat Potrerayut, adding that eight of them had been discharged as their injuries are minor.

Besides the 9 mainlanders and a Hong Kong tourist, there were also two British, one Pakistani and one Thai injured in the accident, he said.

Somkiat said so far there are six Chinese, including the one from Hong Kong, remaining in hospital, with two of them in ICU. “But the two guys are fully conscious and are able to talk, ” he said, adding they will stay in the ICU for one or two more days after suffering the condition of “near drowning”.

The two victims, who were identified to be dead on the way to the Memorial Hospital, had been sent to the nearest public hospital for the possible autopsy, Somkiat told Xinhua.

According to The Nation online, Muang Pattaya’s deputy superintendent Pol Lt Col Chanapat Nawalak said the initial police investigation found that the two boats drove in the opposite direction to one another, arriving at and departing from the pier, when a side of New Friend boat hit the other boat’s rear, causing both boats to break and sink. Police was aiming to press the charge of reckless driving, causing other people’s deaths and injuries, against both boats’ drivers.

The officials from the Chinese embassy arrived in Pattaya this afternoon to help investigate the accident and to show their condolence to the dead and the injured.

The Chinese victims were under a tour group organized by Wuhan Spring International Travel Service of China’s Hubei Province. Ms.Liu Huiping, an staff from the travel agency, told Xinhua that they will send staff to Thailand Thursday to take care of their tourists and other issues.

Beach resort town Pattaya is located in Thailand’s eastern province of Chon-bu-ri.

Yayuk Basuki (INA), 39

There haven’t been many players out of Indonesia. But Basuki was a good one, in the 1990s.

She won six WTA Tour titles; as it happened, all of them were in her neck of the woods: Pattaya City in 1991, Kuala Lumpur in 1992, Pattaya City and Jakarta in1993, and Beijing and Jakarta in 1994.

She got to the top 20 in 1997, peaking at No. 19, and into the top 10 in doubles (at No. 9) the following year. She got to the Wimbledon quarter-finals in 1997. She received the Tour’ sportsmanship award in 1996 and 1998.

And after calling it a day in 2000, Basuki has made a comeback.

It has hardly gotten the press of her contemporary, Kimiko Date-Krumm.

But the mother of a 10-year-old son (yes, she married her coach, what a cliché) has been playing doubles since March of 2008 (with a really, really old Prince racquet).

She’s been doing it in the minor leagues, the ITF circuit, playing mostly with 32-year-old Indonesian Romana Tedjakusama. Last year, she went to the U.S. a lot more, played 14 tournaments, and won three.

This year, sticking closer to home, she has played 10 tournaments since April, winning three of them and reaching the final of a $100,000 tournament in Chinese Taipei.  She also played at a tournament in Jakarta, where she doubles as the tournament director.

In a cute moment last week, Basuki partnered with Date-Krumm at a $75,000 tournament in Japan. They reached the semi-finals. losing to Tamarine Tanasugarn and Marina Erakovic.

Here’s a story in the Jakarta Post about a year ago, on her comeback. She sounds like a lot of fun. And anyone with a one-handed backhand who wants to play the women’s game is A-OK in our books.
